Welcome to 3vkg
Welcome & thanks for swinging by 3 Vets Knife & Gear. We’re a small custom shop in Northeast PA, started by 3 veterans This all started with 3 friends, or more precisely, with 2 friends helping a 3rd make some bushcraft knives for ourselves. Turns out one of them loved metal and ran with it. That was in 2017, since then we have added different products, materials and continue to chase down the next challenge.
So what do we make? Well…everything. Of course there are knives and swords but we also have done flowers, pigs, birds, smoking pipe tools, some garden trellis’, pot racks, gates, rain chains, lots of tools, fabricobble bikes, forged faces, armor and a hell of a lot more. What else can we make? As cliche as it sounds, the possibilities really are endless.
Hit us up! We’re ready to make (literally) your ideas come alive.
Gates, Railings, Lighting &Furniture
We forge multiple types of large items. Gates, fences and railings for gardens, yards & pools, as well as gates for vehicle access.
Live edge slab, stone & fully forged furniture can be created to fit nearly any interior decor or style with the durability to last. That same durability allows these materials to resist the elements outside, as well. A bench, gate, archway, firepit, trellis or pergola could be that missing item to complete that perfect back yard vision.
Engineered structural supports & brackets are also available for custom building and construction
We also offer an array of lighting options. From specialty edison bulbs to led strips to smart home integrated fixtures, nearly anything is possible in the world of lighting and home control.
Imagine saying “Alexa, turn on the Cthulu Light” and it works. Well its possible (& im literally making that light while typing this)
Knives, Swords & Tools
Our knives & swords are primarily influenced by our bushcraft, hunting, fishing, survival & military experience. Clean lines coupled with quality, known steel makes for a great knife.
Our goal is to make solid, quality knives with durable materials and have a sweet sheath that allows real daily use without blown stiches & rivets, cracks, lost screws, etc.
Now of course the knives themselves are solid. Seriously, we encourage you to beat the piss out of them. Our head smith went through over 100-150 knives, per used steel type, to get the heat treatment really dialed in. . Most were intentionally destroyed to check grain and toughness. In fact, its a process were pretty damn proud of. Even then we continuously test new ideas and update the recipe
Testing is brutal affair. We are not nice. It starts with testing files to check that everything is properly treated and tempered. Dye penetrant testing allows us to see any microfractures in the steel that occur or are exacerbated during heat treatment.
Next up is applying some abuse. these tests all depend on the knife being made
If the blade survives that, then its ready to be finished and sent out the door. All to make the custom knife that you’re comfortable with abusing.
